4 Editors Put Summer Fridays's Lip Oil to the Test
Summer Fridays may have another hit on its hands. The influencer-owned brand by Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Ireland that created the Rolls-Royce of lip butter has added a new product to its portfolio: the Dream Lip Oil ($26).
Launching Jan. 18, the lip oils come in four shades and promise to be deeply moisturizing while leaving behind a soft pigment — perfect for a "your lips but better" look. Standout ingredients in the formula include a vegan complex that combines nine plant-based oils, including jojoba seed, avocado, and rosehip, with other moisturizing agents like squalane to provide deep moisture. Other heavy-hitters include vitamin E for antioxidant properties and plant-based collagen, which is great for plumping and retaining moisture. Coming in a small, cylindrical container, the lip oil has a large doe-foot applicator for optimal comfort and color payoff when applying it.
High expectations in place, four POPSUGAR editors decided to put the new Dream Lip Oil to the test. With skin tones across the spectrum, each editor chose the shade they felt best suited them and shared if they thought this new Summer Fridays formula was worth the hype. Read ahead for each of their verdicts.
Summer Fridays Dream Lip Oil in Blush Dreams
"I am a big fan of the Summer Fridays balms, so when I saw the brand was coming out with lip oils, I couldn't get my hands on them fast enough. Right off the bat, I loved how all of the colors could work on my skin tone, and that the lighter shades didn't look ashy on my lips. With that, I personally gravitated toward the shade Blush Dreams.
Formula-wise, Summer Fridays has a winner on its hands. The lip oils are glossy yet moisturizing — a huge feat for a product made with occlusives (meaning that ingredients are usually used to seal in moisture, not necessarily boost hydration as a standalone product). I'm obsessed with the slight cooling sensation these provide alongside the fact that when I take off my makeup at the end of the day, my lips still feel soft and supple. I'm not sure if the lip balms are dethroned for me just yet, but these oils definitely are a strong contender for my favorite product from the brand." — Ariel Baker, assistant editor, beauty
Summer Fridays Dream Lip Oil in Soft Mauve
"Gone are the days when I used to wear matte lipstick every day. Now, I'm not saying I'll never wear it again, but truthfully, I won't be surprised if I stick to my glossy formulas for the rest of eternity. Give me lip oils, tinted balms, or glosses any day. I had high expectations for the Summer Fridays Lip Oil, and it lived up to them. The formula is much thicker and more luxurious than most lip oils, but it has the high-shine finish you'd expect. The colors are so flattering and easy to throw on as a finishing touch to any makeup look. After trying it for the first time, I instantly put it in my purse." — Jessica Harrington, senior editor, beauty
Summer Fridays Dream Lip Oil in Rosewood Nights
"This lip oil has a similar, buttery texture to the lip balm, but it feels a bit more lightweight and slippery. To me, it's as hydrating and conditioning as the balm with a glossier look. Although it's not a plumping formula, it makes my lips look a bit fuller and more juicy due to its hydrating benefits. It has a subtle minty scent that feels extra refreshing, too. My go-to shade is Rosewood Nights as it imparts the most natural brown wash of color. It's so flattering that it permanently lives in my purse now. I can wear this shade alone, with a lip liner, or on top of a bold lip making it a versatile addition to my collection." — Anvita Reddy, assistant editor, commerce
Summer Fridays Dream Lip Oil Blush Dreams
"Summer Fridays, did you create the Blush Dreams shade for me specifically? Because it's so perfect for my lip color that I'm starting to think you used photos of my lips in the lab. Not only is this lip oil the best tone I've maybe ever tested in my entire life, but it also goes on smooth, looks gorgeous, and stays on for hours. It makes my mouth look shiny, provides the perfect tint, and doesn't leave behind a sticky residue. Yes, it works well with lip liners and layered over lipsticks, but honestly, I prefer wearing it completely on its own. While testing, I haven't had any issues with feathering, either. Absolutely no notes — other than to myself: stock up ASAP before this sells out." — Renee Rodriguez, staff writer and social producer
