3 Editors Give an Honest Review of Nike's Bestselling Air Sneakers
Few shoes have dominated the mainstream more — at least over the last decade — than Nike Air sneakers. While the shoe silhouette certainly isn't new, the nostalgic look and inimitably comfortable design is what's made the sneaker a generational mainstay. In fact, it's even garnering a younger audience of millennials and Gen Z'ers alike who have leaned more into sneaker culture than ever before over the last few years.
Nike Air Force 1 shoes, in particular, have evolved into something of a wardrobe staple — and not just for their classic design and comfortable build. The real appeal of Nike Air sneakers is in their styling versatility. Unlike shoes before them, these sneakers seamlessly blend aesthetic with functionality, combining everything that we love about an everyday shoe with the practicality and support of Nike's signature Air technology. You can wear them out to brunch with a dress, to the airport in leggings, out on a date night, or even while you're simply running errands around town. The shoes are designed to elevate any look with a streetwear-inspired flair, all while providing a bouncy base that's primed to provide all-day comfort.
With so many different ways to don Nike Air sneakers and incorporate the shoes into your everyday style, we tasked three editors with reviewing how the shoes work within their own closets. Two opted to test out the classic Nike Air Force 1 sneakers, while another editor adopted the Nike Air Max 90 Futura sneakers within her day-to-day wardrobe. "After trying these on myself, I finally understand why the Nike Air Force 1's are the quintessential versatile white sneakers. They have a casual look yet somehow manage to make you look put together. I love that I can pretty much sport them with the majority of my closet, whether it's a flowy summer dress, a cashmere sweater with jeans, a basic bodysuit with jeans, or, of course, athleisure.
In terms of comfort, these felt supportive from the first wear to the 10th and beyond. Although the sneakers have a bit more give once broken in, they are still as comfortable as ever. The arch of my foot feels supported by its foam midsole, and the shoe's collar is padded, which helps my ankle feel comfortable. This breathable and lightweight shoe is ideal for everyday activity like a long walk or running errands. It's even become my go-to travel/airport shoe." — Anvita Reddy, assistant editor, Commerce

"I'm not a regular sneakers wearer, so I was surprised by how much I love the Nike Air Max 90 Futura sneakers. First of all, they're comfortable with the plush ankle padding and Max Air cushioning, so I literally never want to take them off. But they're also stylish enough that they pair well with my wardrobe of mostly dresses. They feature an embellished Nike swoop and metallic finishes that feel a bit more glamorous than your average sneaker, while still feeling soft and supportive with every step. I've worn them for a day of running to events at Fashion Week but also to run errands, walk through the mall, and play with my nephew at the park." — Jessica Andrews, senior content director, Commerce and UK

"After years of seeing Air Force 1s splashed all across my TikTok and Instagram feed, I finally caved and bought myself a pair of these iconic shoes. Surprising to no one (least of all me, considering how wildly popular these shoes are), the sneakers surpassed all of my expectations in the best way. I now consider these my go-to shoes for travel and everyday wear because of how supremely comfortable they feel while on. They boast all the same bounciness and support of an athletic sneaker but with a silhouette that can easily be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. I appreciate their styling versatility and the fact that I can wear them all day without having to worry about my feet feeling sore at the end of it — whether it be on a morning walk to a work appointment or even for happy hour cocktails with my girlfriends." — Kyley Warren, assistant editor, Commerce
