3 Editors Put Kylie Cosmetics's New Foundation to the Test
Sometimes finding the right foundation can make us feel like Goldilocks. Maybe we want something matte that isn't too drying, something hydrating that isn't too dewy, or something with light coverage that's still buildable for those days when we want more. Whatever our wish is, we're always searching for the product that feels "just right."
The latest brand claiming to have a product that ticks every box? Kylie Cosmetics with the new Power Plush Longwear Foundation ($36), which launched on January 17, along with the Foundation Brush ($32) and the Setting Spray ($27).
It's categorized as a hydrating foundation with key ingredients such as niacinamide and vitamin E, offering medium, buildable coverage. It boasts 12 hours of wear as well as a satin finish that lands somewhere in between dewy and matte. The formula is available in 40 different shades, and it's vegan, cruelty-free, and paraben-free.
Our editors are already fans of the brand's mascara and concealer, so we had high hopes for the newest launch. To see whether the foundation lives up to the internet hype, three POPSUGAR editors with different skin types and skin tones put it to the test. Keep reading for their honest reviews.
Kylie Cosmetics Power Plush Longwear Foundation in 3N
"I was amazed by how smooth the application of this foundation was with just my finger and a beauty blender. What's more, I didn't feel cakey as the day went on and there were zero signs of crumbling product at my creases. While I tried two different shades, 2.5W first and 3N second, I did feel like the rest of my makeup layered on perfectly regardless of the tone I used. However, 3N was definitely more of a match as when I swiped this one on, I swear it magically melted into my skin, blending seamlessly with my complexion." — Sarah Wasilak, associate content director, commerce

Kylie Cosmetics Power Plush Longwear Foundation in 7N
"My closest shade match was 7N, and it blended into my neck pretty seamlessly. I was expecting it to pull a little more orange, but it was a pretty decent fit for my neutral undertone. I have a fairly normal skin type that veers on the drier side during the winter, so I prepped my skin with a hydrating base. This foundation did not feel dry on my skin, but it's also not overly hydrating either — it's the perfect middle ground.
It has a weightless and flexible feel that's smooth on the skin. Although the description says it has medium, buildable coverage, I was pleasantly surprised by the level of pigment it offered. It effectively evened out my skin tone and covered up dark spots with just one to two pumps. With this amount of coverage, I'd expect the formula to look and feel cakey, but it doesn't. I really like that it looks more natural and has a skin-like finish. I currently have an active breakout and it blurred the appearance of them without the need for setting powder, but I do recommend finishing with a setting spray." — Anvita Reddy, assistant editor, commerce

Kylie Cosmetics Power Plush Longwear Foundation in 5N
"I'm not a big fan of base makeup in general, but after falling in love with the Kylie Cosmetics concealer earlier this year, so I was willing to give this foundation a try. I have dry, acne-prone skin, so I tend to favor formulas that are hydrating, not too thick, and won't break me out.
The first time I tested this, I was surprised to find that it felt almost weightless on my skin. Typically, by the end of the day, I can't wait to wash my makeup off but this formula felt lightweight enough that I barely remembered I was wearing it. I've been combining it with the setting spray after each application and I've found that the coverage lasts well throughout the day without settling in dry spots or fine lines.
I was also able to test a few different shades and found that 5N was almost a perfect match for my skin tone." — Renee Rodriguez, staff writer and social producer
